- Argentina is a federal constitutional republic and representational democracy
- The government is divided into three branches:
1. Legislative Branch:
a) a bicameral Congress composed of the Senate and Deputy Chambers
b) has the power to make federal laws, declare war, approve treaties, alter budgets and taxes, and impeach officials
2. Executive Branch:
a) the president is the commander-in-chief, appoints the Cabinet members, and can veto legislation
b) the president is directly elected every four years and cannot serve more than two terms
c) Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner has been the president since 2007 and Amado Boudou the vice president since 2011
3. Judicial Branch:
a) the Supreme Court is the highest court and composed of seven judges
b) judges are nominated by the president and approved by the Senate
